MASONRY or CONCRETE FENCE CRACKED / TILTED / SETTLING / DAMAGED
MASONRY or CONCRETE FENCE CRACKED / TILTED / SETTLING / DAMAGED
(moderate): Masonry cracks are most often caused by settlement or
seismic movement. Sometimes damage is caused by vehicular or other heavy
object contact Cracks in block or concrete type fences and fences of
this type which are pulling from their end supports, such as against
buildings, are usually not repaired, other than filling the crack with
mortar, unless the crack is weakening the fence. If this is the case it
should be treated as a swaying fence. Prefab concrete fences often crack
horizontally where rebar is placed These cracks ultimately weaken the
fence. If the original installers can be contacted, it is recommended
that you obtain their opinion as to whether the fence is endangered or
beyond repair If the fence is block, brick or stone, is over three feet
tall, and is in danger of falling, it should be repaired immediately
